As a Lead Quantity Surveyor at Farrans Construction, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing a diverse team of contractors and suppliers within the Strategic Pipeline Alliance. This significant infrastructure initiative is among the largest in the UK, focusing on the engineering and integration of extensive pipeline systems designed to efficiently transport water from surplus to deficit areas, thereby enhancing the resilience of the east of England against drought and securing sustainable water supplies for future generations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver optimal commercial outcomes for projects through precise financial reporting.
  • Foster and sustain collaborative relationships with clients and the supply chain.
  • Oversee subcontractor accounts, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and monitoring progress against project timelines. Negotiate final accounts effectively.
  • Develop and manage the procurement schedule to align with project needs.
  • Conduct thorough measurements and valuations of completed work, ensuring adherence to contract specifications.
  • Track project spending against the established budget, providing insights into cost overruns and future projections while identifying opportunities to enhance value and reduce expenses.
  • Engage with clients on commercial matters, including variations, claims, and additional payments.
  • Recognize valid contractual claim scenarios and prepare appropriate documentation for clients.
  • Establish project-specific commercial risk and opportunity profiles with measurable controls and assigned responsibilities.
  • Lead and mentor a team of Surveyors, implementing performance management strategies, conducting individual reviews, and supporting their continuous professional development.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to team members in alignment with company standards and values, aiming to maximize both team and individual potential.

Required Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of ten years of experience in construction commercial management, with a focus on major projects.
  • Proficiency in administering NEC forms of contract.
  • A degree or equivalent experience in commercial management.
  • A solid understanding of contemporary Civil Engineering practices, equipment, and logistical considerations.
  • Awareness of cost implications in project completion and construction solution development.
  • Strong IT proficiency.
  • A valid UK manual driving license is essential.
