About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design Engineer to join our team at JK Tool Inc. as a Progressive Stamping Die Designer. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for designing and developing high-precision progressive stamping dies for high-volume production of complex tolerance products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Design high-precision progressive stamping dies for high-volume production of complex tolerance products, adhering to JK engineering standards.
  • Material and Process Specifications: Create and modify material, plating, and heat treat specifications, as well as other outside material/process specifications as required.
  • Process Data and Drawings: Process data (layouts) for use in WEDM and CNC machining centers, and create and modify internal product drawings for inspection and other purposes.
  • Fixtures and Gages: Design fixtures, gages, and other custom tooling or equipment as required.
  • Customer Review and Coordination: Review customer drawings and specifications for manufacturing feasibility, and initiate and/or coordinate change control process (ECO) relating to engineering documentations.
  • Technical Assistance and Training: Provide technical assistance to die assembly regarding tooling and process issues during fabrication and debugging, and instruct and mentor within the department as needed.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience designing complex progressive stamping dies.
  • Education: 2-year technical degree required; 4-year engineering degree preferred. Equivalent experience in a hands-on technical position, such as tool & die maker/apprentice, may be considered as a substitute for degree.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Proficient in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), with experience in at least one 2-D CAD design package (e.g. AutoCAD, Solid Edge, CadKey), and 3-D experience preferable (e.g. Solidworks, ProENGINEER). Understanding of ANSI/ISO drawing standards, knowledge of GD&T dimensioning, and knowledge of Wire EDM and/or CNC machining technologies.
  • Other Requirements: Knowledge of tool steels and their applications, knowledge of commonly stamped metals such as cold-rolled steels, stainless steels, and copper-based alloys, understanding of die sensors, vision inspection, and/or related technology, and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
