The Role & Key Responsibilities

The Sussex Police Evidential Property Team is seeking an enthusiastic and highly organized individual to join their team as an Evidential Property Courier. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that evidential property seized by Sussex Police is safely and securely transported between Sussex Police sites and the Sussex Evidential Property department. You will maintain vigorous audit trails for all items being handled and update the evidential property database. If you have a positive approach to delivering a responsible and efficient service in support of operational policing, we would like to hear from you.

This position is full-time, operating Monday - Friday. Remote working is not available for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. To be responsible for the collection, distribution, and delivery of seized property around Sussex Police & occasionally Surrey Police sites, in accordance with a prearranged schedule.
  2. To use the evidential property database & systems to identify property ready for collection and delivery.
  3. To complete a physical check of evidential property for collection and delivery against the pick list to ascertain that the correct items are being moved.
  4. To use the equipment provided, such as scanners, laptops, and smartphones, to record and upload the movements of the property items on the property database.
  5. To have ownership over the security, professional appearance, and functionality of the temporary evidential property stores located within a variety of Sussex Police sites.
  6. To use the equipment provided for safe handling and transportation of property items in accordance with the Risks Assessments and Safe Operating Procedures pertaining to the specific items, i.e. firearms, drugs, cash, etc.
  7. To maintain a working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and compliance to support the movement of property, including hazardous and valuable items, across the forces.
  8. To drive police vehicles in accordance with police standards and policies, and to take responsibility for the department's vehicle, ensuring it is serviced, cleaned, and maintained.
  9. To maintain the security and safety of all items while traveling, such as restricting the movement of items in the vehicle while in transit, locking and alarming the vehicles when unattended in a police premises.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for a confident and self-motivated individual who is able to work accurately and pay attention to details, with a logical method of working. Good organizational skills and the ability to work to deadlines with a flexible approach to working are essential. Experience of working in a confidential environment is also desirable.

The ability to use initiative and work with minimum supervision, in addition to working alongside a team aiming to achieve the same goals, is required. To manage colleague expectations with a commitment to service delivery is also essential.

Good computer skills, including basic Excel, and the ability to learn bespoke systems are necessary. Research and problem-solving skills, practical experience of manual handling techniques, and a full driving license are also required.
