About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Haulage Operations Manager to join our Waste Contracts and Haulage Team at Leicestershire County Council.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing the Haulage Operations service, ensuring it is efficient, effective, and delivers value for money. You will also manage numerous high-value haulage and waste-related contracts.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the Haulage Operations service, including directly operated Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) and Waste Transfer Stations (WTSs)
  • Managing high-value haulage and waste-related contracts
  • Developing and implementing strategies to optimize efficiency savings and improve services
  • Leading and managing a team of operational staff
  • Providing technical advice to senior managers and elected members
  • Ensuring compliance with waste management legislation

We are looking for a proactive, flexible, and commercially aware individual with a strong background in haulage service management and service development. You will have a relevant degree or equivalent experience and extensive knowledge of statutory requirements, policies, and procedures associated with operating a haulage service.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A relevant degree or significant experience in managing waste transport services, including haulage operations, HWRC operations, Waste Transfer Stations, or membership of a relevant Chartered Institute
  • Proficiency in budget management, forecasting, and reporting for significant value budgets
  • Skills in managing and developing teams, including operational staff, and leading sustainable high-performance outcomes
  • Demonstrable ability in writing and interpreting technical and non-technical reports
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, including attending and producing materials for meetings and exhibitions
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and build powerful relationships
