About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of mechanical plant equipment at an asphalt production facility. This is a key role within the engineering function, and the successful candidate will be expected to work independently with minimal supervision.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Respond to plant breakdowns in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring assets are returned to production with minimal downtime.
  • Undertake emergency breakdown repairs on all production equipment, prioritizing safety and efficiency.
  • Liaise with the section manager to plan and execute preventative maintenance activities, including planned shutdowns.
  • Own small-scale projects and deliver them in a pragmatic and proactive manner, with a focus on cost savings and efficiency improvements.
  • Take a cost-conscious approach to maintenance activities, participating in root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures.
  • Coordinate with contractors and suppliers as required, ensuring compliance with company procedures and regulations.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the engineering function through observations and experience.
  • Perform welding and fabrication tasks to a high standard.
  • Work with risk assessments and method statements to develop safe working methods for repair procedures.
  • Maintain and promote health and safety rules and regulations, following all company processes and procedures.
  • Challenging unsafe conditions and practices, reporting them through company procedures.
  • Utilize the computerized maintenance management system to record all work, including fault descriptions, spares used, and repairs carried out.

Requirements:

  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic individual with a strong practical mechanical systems background, preferably in heavy industry.
  • Proven experience working within an industrial, factory, or similar environment.
  • Strong fault-finding ability to identify defects and recommend appropriate action.
  • Ability to remove and fit bearings.
  • Capable of undertaking emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient manner on all production equipment.
  • Ability to assess SHE risks arising from work activities and control risks accordingly.
  • Knowledge of site-specific SHE procedures and Safe Working Practices.
