Job Overview

The Central Underwriting teams at Hiscox are responsible for the technical underwriting of new business and renewals across our broker business. As an Underwriting Specialist, you will focus on underwriting existing business for our commercial policies, providing a breadth of development opportunities and exposure to our products, state-of-the-art new underwriting platform, and underwriting strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite commercial products in line with our high standards
  • Work towards set targets each month, including profitability, conversion, and productivity
  • Develop sales skills and appreciation of sales and underwriting strategy in collaboration with the wider teams and regions
  • Effectively negotiate with internal and external parties, including brokers
  • Challenge non-standard underwriting decisions, leveraging the expertise of product specialists and underwriting managers
  • Show courage and innovation by spotting process improvements and enhancing the customer experience and driving profitable growth

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a commercial lines underwriter, with knowledge of Professional Indemnity and exposure to Management Liability and Cyber
  • Logical and analytical thinker
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to present and articulate thinking
  • Natural flair for building relationships and developing close rapport with brokers
  • Ambitious and driven, with the ability to self-motivate and achieve results
  • Ideal candidate will be degree-qualified and working towards Diploma CII or exempt through relevant experience as defined by the FCA
