About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our dynamic Diabetes Specialist Nurse Development team. This exciting opportunity will allow you to progress your career towards a Band 6 DSN role within our supportive and collaborative environment.

As a Specialist Diabetes Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients with diabetes and endocrinology conditions across various clinic locations. You will work closely with experienced Band 6/7 Diabetes Specialist Nurses who will guide your development and support you in achieving the necessary competencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, case conferences, and specialist interest group meetings to contribute to patient care and treatment planning.
  • Develop your diabetes specialist skills and competencies within a defined timeframe, ensuring you are equipped to provide patients with advanced treatment options and support their self-management journey.
  • Manage a caseload of countywide outpatients through clinics, including administrative tasks such as dictating letters and organizing follow-ups. Utilize clinical reasoning skills to assess, diagnose, plan, deliver, evaluate, and amend treatment plans for both outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote a safe and secure environment that adheres to safety and governance frameworks and standards, including confidentiality regulations and infection prevention and control policies.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling you to effectively communicate for clinical purposes, negotiate, lead, and influence others, even in sensitive situations.
  • A strong understanding of safety and governance frameworks and standards, including confidentiality regulations, freedom of information, Caldicott guidelines, and CQC essential standards.
  • The ability to prioritize your workload effectively and demonstrate personal resilience when managing complex tasks and working in ambiguous or changing environments.
  • A range of clinical competencies relevant to the role and a willingness to train as a non-medical prescriber.
