Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Systems

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Systems to join our team at JAM Recruitment Ltd. As a Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Systems, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and support to our clients in the field of power systems engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Solutions: Develop design solutions to agreed time, cost, and quality in accordance with project or business milestones.
  • Requirements Management: Develop and manage requirements and acceptance criteria specific to a system or product and/or across a system of systems, platform, or programme.
  • Contractual and Performance Requirements: Understand the contractual and performance requirements for various systems and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Documentation: Produce documentation required to support the design review process, including diagrams, technical specifications, supporting calculations, design evidence, and justifications.
  • Design Proving Evidence: Ensure design proving evidence is comprehensive, captured within the requirements management tools, and has been endorsed by the appropriate level of authority.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance against contractual requirements and that work is undertaken in accordance with company, safety, environmental, contractual, and local business processes, standards, procedures, and documentation.
  • Design Reviews and Presentations: Undertake design reviews and presentations to customers.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support to integrated performance and acceptance activities, including acceptance of equipment from suppliers through to system acceptance by the customer.
  • Supplier Documentation: Review relevant supplier documentation and ensure it is captured and recorded appropriately.
  • Estimates and Resource Planning: Support the development of estimates for the scope of work and resources required to deliver it in order to support bids, proposal development, and project planning activities for various systems.
  • Certificate of Design: Provide support to the Certificate of Design activities appropriate to the discipline and articulate and present complex technical arguments clearly, logically, and simply.
  • Technical Input and Engineering Solutions: Deliver technical input and engineering solutions in support of build activities, defect resolution, and change management.

Requirements:

  • Technical Report Writing Skills: Technical report writing skills are essential for this role.
  • Engineering Lifecycle Experience: Demonstrable experience of the engineering lifecycle is required.
  • Defence Standards Knowledge: Knowledge and experience in defence standards, while not essential, would be an advantage.
  • Power Systems Knowledge: Understanding of at least one of the following areas: power system modelling, generators, switchgear, protection, power electronics.
  • Power Systems Architecture: In-depth understanding of at least one of the following areas: power systems architecture, power systems modelling (simulation and analysis), power generation and distribution (both AC and DC), power system protection and coordination, power system operation, power electronics, power system earth fault monitoring.
  • Engineering Role Experience: Experience of working within a relevant engineering role to industry codes and standards is ideal but not essential.
  • Complex Design Programmes: Experience of working on complex design programmes is essential.
  • Electrical Power Systems: Experience of working on electrical power systems covering elements such as low voltage AC, DC, electrical distribution, and protection, lighting systems, and power systems modelling is required.

Skills:

  • Technical Reports and Specifications: Technical reports and specifications are essential for this role.
  • Functional System Diagrams: Functional system diagrams are required.
  • System Design Evidence: System design evidence is essential.
  • System Safety Justifications: System safety justifications are required.
  • Technical Presentations: Technical presentations are essential.
  • System Calculations, Modelling, and Analysis: System calculations, modelling, and analysis are required.
  • Developing Test Procedures: Developing test procedures is essential.
  • Attending Factory Acceptance Tests: Attending factory acceptance tests is required.
  • Configuration and Testing of Equipment: Configuration and testing of equipment are essential.
