Client Welfare Advisor

Lincoln, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom St Barnabas Hospice Full time

At St Barnabas Hospice, our Wellbeing Service is dedicated to offering comprehensive support to patients, families, caregivers, and those who are grieving throughout Lincolnshire. Our range of services encompasses Spiritual Care, Welfare & Benefits, Counselling & Emotional Support, and Bereavement Care.

We are currently seeking a Welfare & Benefits Consultant to join our dynamic Welfare & Benefits Team across Lincolnshire.

This team plays a crucial role in delivering benefits guidance through various channels, including telephone, in-person consultations, and written communication, to individuals facing life-limiting conditions, particularly those who may encounter significant challenges in navigating the benefits system. The Welfare & Benefits Team is vital in assisting patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families or caregivers. We are looking for a dedicated individual who is eager to make a positive impact and is open to learning about the benefits system, even if they lack prior experience. Comprehensive training and support will be provided.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying suitable benefits and assisting in the application process, including completing applications on behalf of patients and their families.
  • Maintaining organization and efficiency while confidently managing a diverse and busy caseload.
  • Collaborating closely with fellow Welfare & Benefits Consultants to support patients throughout Lincolnshire.

This position is primarily home-based, with strong support from your team and managers on a daily basis. Occasional travel to local bases may be required to provide assistance to patients and to participate in community events such as coffee mornings and support groups. The Welfare & Benefits Team is a welcoming and supportive group, and this role is incredibly fulfilling.

Qualifications and Experience:

We welcome applications from candidates who are organized and passionate about helping others. This role involves administrative tasks, with all work conducted either in writing or online, so proficiency in administrative skills and computer usage is essential. We seek candidates who are willing to learn the responsibilities and duties of a Welfare & Benefits Consultant. While knowledge of benefits or related experience is advantageous, we are prepared to provide full training for the right candidate. You should demonstrate your ability to prioritize tasks, manage caseloads, and thrive in a busy environment while being an integral part of the team. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, senior advisors, and line managers are essential to support our service.

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday) with flexible working hours to be discussed during the interview.

Salary: £25,786 per annum, pro rata (plus weekend unsocial hours enhancement of 30% and a contributory pension scheme or continuation of NHS pension)

Base: Primarily Home Working (Hybrid Worker) with occasional commuting to one of our wellbeing centres across Lincolnshire as needed.

Home visits and travel may be required on an ad hoc basis, so access to transportation is essential for this role.

Options for buying and selling annual leave and lease car schemes are available to qualifying new employees.
