Job Overview:
General Summary:
This role is designed to act as a technical consultant on electrical issues and assess contracted electrical services. The incumbent will undertake various maintenance projects and preventive maintenance tasks encompassing plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the functionality of electrical systems and equipment, troubleshoot issues, and execute new electrical installations in accordance with National Electrical Codes.
  • Deliver cost-effective and safe electrical services to the campus.
  • Suggest the latest or most effective electrical tools, systems, and methods.
  • Complete work orders based on priorities set by the immediate supervisor.
  • May be assigned to work at different campus locations as needed.
  • Handle emergency tasks independently during weekends and holidays.
  • Support other trades, conduct safety inspections, respond to emergencies, manage supplies, and perform additional duties as required.
  • Conduct inspections, repairs, and maintenance on electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Identify necessary equipment, parts, and supplies to fulfill assignments.
  • Complete work orders promptly and maintain records in the computer maintenance management system.
  • Must be present on campus during weather-related emergencies to restore operational conditions, which may involve extended hours and snow removal.
  • Perform daily facility inspections and execute repairs or maintenance as necessary.
  • Assist other trades (Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC) in tasks assigned by the facilities manager.
Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to apply practical knowledge and skills to solve problems.
  • Capacity to remain vigilant and aware of surroundings.
  • Ability to maintain composure in high-pressure situations.
  • Skill in prioritizing and completing multiple tasks with minimal oversight.
  • Capability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools, along with diagnostic equipment relevant to the trade.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs regularly.
  • Competence to work in confined or cramped spaces.
Required Qualifications:
  • Valid Virginia driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience in electrical repairs and installations.
  • Background as a technical advisor on electrical issues.
  • Experience in preventive maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with parking lot lighting systems.
  • Certification in bucket truck operation.
  • Journeyman Trade License.
  • Training in residential wiring and commercial electrical applications.
