Position Overview

The Mechanical Project Engineer will report directly to the Project Engineering Manager and will be integral to a team tasked with executing engineering projects for a series of utility-scale hydrogen-ready gas peaking and energy storage initiatives. The initial focus will be on a significant hybrid battery and thermal project.

Key Responsibilities

1. **Design Coordination of Mechanical Engineering Packages:**

  • Facilitate the integration of design contributions from all contractors involved in the project.
  • Proactively identify and address design challenges, escalating to the head of engineering when necessary.
  • Lead coordination meetings among contractors to ensure alignment on engineering responsibilities.
  • Maintain a design register and provide regular updates to the project team.
  • Oversee contractor timelines to ensure timely delivery of design outputs.

2. **Document Management for Mechanical Engineering Packages:**

  • Oversee all mechanical and process documentation required for the project.
  • Ensure that all contractors utilize the most current revisions of drawings and calculations throughout the project lifecycle.

3. **Communication of Design Information:**

  • Be present on-site at least one day per week during the construction phase.
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess design progress and assist the project management team with any arising design-related issues.

4. **Future Project Design Development:**

  • Assist the Engineering Director in crafting designs and specifications for upcoming battery and hydrogen-ready gas peaking plants.

5. **Owner's Engineer Role:**

  • Review mechanical design work performed by contractors for various projects.

6. **High-Level Mechanical Design Specification:**

  • Provide detailed specifications for mechanical designs associated with hydrogen-ready gas peaking projects.

7. **Representation in Meetings:**

  • Act as a representative for the company in discussions with designers, suppliers, and on-site teams.
Additional Skills

While not mandatory, the following skills would be advantageous:

  • Familiarity with gas engine project design.
  • Understanding of electrical safety regulations up to 400kV.
  • Experience in gas peaking plant construction.
  • Working knowledge of process engineering, including the ability to interpret PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and 3D CAD design.
Qualifications

• MEng in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.

Experience

3-10 years of experience in an EPC or energy generation context, particularly in gas peaking plants, energy storage, wind, or solar projects.
