Job Title:

Principal Design Engineer – Structures and Outfit

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Design Engineer to lead our Structures and Outfit team. As a key member of our Design Services department, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality design solutions that meet the needs of our customers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design solution process for Structures and Outfit, ensuring the highest quality of design services products.
  • Own and continually improve best practice for Design Services Structural design activities.
  • Estimate and certify detailed design solutions, ensuring product safety and environmental legislation compliance.
  • Represent Design Services at MoD requirements and project meetings.
  • Liaise and advise MoD and industry customers on the development of statements of requirements.
  • Lead and conduct engineering investigations as required.
  • Act as a design mentor and training manager to Structures and Outfit Senior Design Engineers, Design Engineers, and apprentices.
Requirements:
  • HND or above in a technology, engineering, or science-related discipline.
  • Ability to discuss and understand the context and implications of technical issues across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Engineering leadership and judgement.
  • Ability to forecast risk and provide effective mitigation.
  • Meet the requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council.
Desirable:
  • Understanding of the process to support ships in service.
  • Effective communication skills, both internal and external, at all levels.
