Job Summary:

Belcan is seeking a skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to oversee a team of design engineers responsible for creating innovative design solutions from initial concept through to product manufacture. This role involves managing multiple modules within projects, ensuring that all mechanical design work meets company, airframer, regulatory, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in driving the development of new product designs and their integration into the Product Life Management (PLM) system.
  • You will lead a team of mechanical design engineers and act as the primary point of contact for communication with customers and suppliers on all matters related to mechanical design.
  • In this capacity, you will oversee the design effort for various work packages or modules, ensuring that tasks and deliverables are effectively developed and managed.
  • You will also conduct design reviews and ensure that engineering milestones are achieved on schedule.
  • Your expertise will be instrumental in developing complex design concepts and mechanisms, creating detailed designs for seating components, and leading the successful integration of these designs.
  • You will apply best practices and methods for product design, ensuring compliance through change management, design optimization, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and design for manufacturing.
  • In this leadership role, you will also have the opportunity to coach, mentor, and develop less experienced design engineers, including apprentices and graduates, helping them grow and excel in their careers.

Requirements:

  • Qualified with a minimum degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering, or an equivalent qualification such as HNC/HND.
  • Extensive experience in mechanical systems design and developing concept and detailing engineering solutions.
  • Minimum 5 years' aircraft seating and/or aircraft interiors experience.
  • Highly proficient in CATIA V5 (or other 3D CAD packages) and Product Life Management (PLM) Systems.
  • Working knowledge of key manufacturing methods, including sheet metal fabrication, plastics vacuum forming, and CNC machining.
  • IDEALLY you will have proven experience leading/managing a team of mechanical design engineers.
