Job Overview:

The Groundworks Technician will report to the Area Agent and will be an integral part of the Network Operations - Powercare team. This position is permanent and based within the London region.

Compensation:

The role offers a competitive salary of £30,995, along with a bonus of 1% and a 19% shifted allowance amounting to £5,889 annually.

Role Purpose:

The primary responsibility is to work as part of a two-person excavation team executing excavation, backfill, and reinstatement tasks on faults, small service, and unmetered connections within the UK Power Networks SPN Distribution Licence area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to all Safety, Health, and Environmental regulations pertinent to this role.
  • Conduct risk assessments and uphold safe working practices.
  • Utilize handheld IT devices to receive job instructions and document site information.
  • Guarantee that the quality of work aligns with current procedures.
  • Ensure that all tasks meet guaranteed service standards.
  • Safeguard the security of vehicles, tools, plant, and equipment.
  • Be open to undertaking additional reasonable responsibilities as required by the company.
  • Act as a representative for UK Power Networks.

Work Environment:

This role involves working as part of a two-person excavation team, either on planned projects or as part of a fault repair team.

Travel within the EPN, SPN, and LPN footprint of UK Power Networks is required, and participation in an out-of-hours standby rota is expected.

Qualifications:

  • NRSWA Units
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • CSCS Operatives card
  • Emergency First Aid qualification
  • Banksman qualification

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in the electricity network sector
  • Plant Operator qualification (mini excavator)
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety culture

Should candidates lack some essential skills or qualifications, opportunities for further training may be available. If not all relevant competencies for the core grade are met, candidates may be appointed at a lower grade until the necessary competencies are developed.

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

Managers and supervisors hold both legal and company responsibilities for ensuring the health and safety of their employees and those affected by their work. This includes providing necessary briefings and ensuring understanding and competence in safe working practices.

Employees must be aware of the health and safety risks associated with their work and their responsibility to manage those risks effectively. Understanding the environmental impacts of work activities and the controls required to mitigate them is also essential.

For certain craft and operational roles involving work at height or the use of fall arrest devices, an upper weight limit of 116Kg applies due to the maximum safe working load of the safety equipment.
