Job Overview:

The Logistics Operations Leader is tasked with steering and overseeing the logistics strategy, management, and governance for the business operations of the PPTD Function at De Beers Group. This pivotal role contributes to organizational success by delivering financial insights that enhance commercial decision-making.

The incumbent will manage logistics activities to guarantee that components and materials are accessible as required for research and development, production, and service, ensuring proper receipt and consumption to uphold a high degree of inventory accuracy.

The Logistics Operations Leader reports directly to the VP Operations (PPTD).

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership:

  • Guide and cultivate the performance of the team in alignment with De Beers' performance management framework and corporate values, while offering pertinent coaching and mentoring to team members.
  • Establish clear objectives, direction, and expectations for safe, authorized, and productive work, along with measurable performance standards that hold individuals accountable.
  • Facilitate and support the change management process to ensure the team is inspired, equipped, and motivated to realize De Beers' vision for the future.
  • Build and sustain ongoing relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Logistics Management:

General:

  • Accountable for the establishment, review, and documentation of business processes, development of procedures, and application of robust internal control and governance protocols.

Inbound Logistics:

  • Oversee the establishment, enhancement, and managerial control of specialized technical procurement processes, including optimized purchasing strategies. Manage sourcing and procurement of components, materials, and consumables necessary for R&D, production, and service operations.
  • Monitor and analyze logistics costs, identifying improvement opportunities and implementing cost-saving measures without compromising quality.
  • Establish, enhance, and oversee order confirmation and expediting processes to fulfill the requirements of the PPTD Business.
  • Manage materials receiving, storage, and issuance processes with a focus on inventory levels, asset control, and documentation for the PPTD Business. Actively monitor inventory to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Resolve supply or quality issues with suppliers.
  • Maintain a sustainable and adaptable supply network.
  • Implement ISO 45001 Process Management.

Outbound Logistics:

  • In collaboration with Group Legal, Tax, and Finance, negotiate, draft, review, and redline supply contracts and legal documents (including tenders).
  • Establish, enhance, and oversee outbound shipping processes for the PPTD Business.

Diamond Goods Oversight:

  • Establish and manage diamond goods control processes, ensuring alignment of inventory management practices with group policy and regulatory compliance.
  • Facilitate effective communication and coordination between the Diamond Goods Controller and other departments within PPTD to ensure seamless operations and a unified approach to managing diamond goods.
  • Ensure that all diamond handling and shipping activities adhere to the highest standards of security and regulatory compliance, safeguarding the company's assets and reputation.

Sales and Spare Parts Support:

  • Collaborate with sales and after-sales support teams to ensure the availability of spare parts and timely fulfillment of customer orders. Develop processes for efficient handling of returns, repairs, and replacements.

Production Coordination:

  • Work alongside production and engineering teams to create production schedules and ensure that materials and components are available to meet production targets.

Performance Metrics:

  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators to assess logistics performance and identify areas for enhancement. Prepare regular reports for senior management.

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure a safe working environment is consistently maintained in logistics-managed areas.
  • Guarantee that the practices of the logistics team comply with all legal and De Beers Group policy guidelines concerning Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Professional certification (e.g., CSCP, CPIM) is preferred.
  • Experience within a systems and controls environment.
  • Financial experience is advantageous.
  • Contracts/Legal experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics Nav system is essential.
