This opportunity is exclusively for Student Nurses and Medical Students.
To be eligible, Student Nurses must have successfully completed their initial 10-week placement, while Medical Students are required to possess a minimum of 6 months of clinical care experience.
South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust is actively seeking to empower student nurses and medical students to take on the role of a Healthcare Assistant, delivering essential care to patients in both Acute and Community environments.
Joining our team as a student will provide invaluable healthcare experience, enabling you to deliver person-centered care while offering the flexibility to balance your studies and work placements. This role will also allow you to explore various ward areas, helping you identify your areas of interest and expertise. You have the autonomy to choose your preferred working locations and shifts.
Our internal staffing bank is utilized to fill shifts in response to staff shortages, increased demand, or sickness. We have cultivated a skilled workforce for those who wish to work flexibly around personal commitments, and now is your chance to become part of this team. Main Responsibilities
The Healthcare Assistant will provide high-quality, compassionate personal care and related duties under the guidance and supervision of registered professionals, working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.

- Report any concerns regarding patients or changes in their condition to registered professionals.
- Deliver individualized care under the supervision of registered professionals.
- Document all care provided to patients, ensuring confidentiality is maintained.
- Assist in preparing patients for treatments or procedures as directed.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety in the clinical area.
- Adhere to infection control procedures to prevent cross-infection.
- Support relatives with compassion and empathy under the guidance of registered professionals.
- Assist with the discharge process for patients as directed.
Communication and Teamwork
- Welcome patients, relatives, and visitors, providing assistance and information as needed.
- Introduce yourself in accordance with Trust privacy and dignity standards.
- Answer the telephone courteously and direct inquiries to registered professionals.
- Communicate effectively within the multi-disciplinary team to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Participate in reporting and documentation of patient care under the supervision of registered professionals.
- Utilize Trust information systems as required by the clinical area.
Education and Development
- Attend mandatory training sessions, including infection control and manual handling.
- Complete the Trust's Healthcare Assistant Induction program.
- Engage in the Trust Appraisal process.
- Participate in relevant training for personal and professional development.
- Stay informed about changes in policies and procedures relevant to the role.
Qualifications
Essential
- Student Nurses must have completed their first 10-week placement.
- Medical Students must have at least 6 months of clinical care experience.
