The Role
We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our team. As an Underwriter, you will play a critical role in evaluating client proposals and determining whether they meet our lending criteria. You will be responsible for conducting thorough credit assessments, analyzing financial data, and making informed decisions about whether to approve or decline loan applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough credit assessments of client proposals, including analysis of financial data and credit history.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of UK SMEs and their financial needs.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather information and make informed lending decisions.
- Structure transactions to ensure optimal risk management and return on investment.
- Ensure timely completion of credit risk assessments within our standard service level agreements.
- Provide coaching and guidance to junior colleagues on credit risk assessment and underwriting best practices.
- Identify high-risk accounts and work with internal stakeholders to develop strategies for mitigating risk.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in a similar underwriting role, preferably in alternative finance.
- Strong knowledge of credit risk and a proven ability to think critically and outside the box.
- Deep understanding of UK SMEs and their financial needs.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
