About the Role

Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited is seeking a highly skilled Engineering Buyer to join our team. As a key member of our Purchasing department, you will play a pivotal role in driving procurement activities across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source and procure materials, components, and services in line with project requirements.
  • Negotiate contracts, prices, and terms with suppliers to ensure cost-effective purchasing.
  • Monitor and manage supplier performance to ensure timely delivery and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to understand material requirements and specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and supplier performance.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
  • Stay updated with market trends and new products to ensure competitive advantage.

Requirements

  • Proven purchasing experience within an engineering/manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of engineering drawings and basic manufacturing processes.
  • Previous experience of dealing with procuring Machined Parts and dealing with Sub-Contract suppliers regarding plating and finishing of components.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers and internal departments.
  • Highly proactive, enthusiastic, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail, with an impeccable, thorough and accurate approach.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure.
  • Full clean driving licence.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package including discretionary bonus.
  • Early Friday finish - 37-hour working week (Monday to Thursday 8.00am - 4.30pm, Friday 8.00am - 1.00pm).
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
