Lead Cost Estimator - Manchester

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Lead Cost Estimator to join our UK North Build division, contributing to a significant construction initiative in the region.

As the Lead Cost Estimator, you will play a vital role within the commercial team, managing various elements of financial oversight including Client Relations, Payment Management, Internal Financial Reporting, Procurement, and fostering the growth of team members.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Align the financial strategy with project developments, adjusting as necessary.
  • Collaborate with and provide commercial insights to other team members and the construction workflow.
  • Take charge of, manage, and advocate for the company in financial and contractual matters, which include but are not limited to: Preparing bids, selecting suitable subcontractors, overseeing financial management to Final Account completion, generating and presenting forecasts, targets, and CV reconciliations, preparing and agreeing on valuations, generating certificates and invoices, managing variations as work progresses, regularly updating projected Final Accounts, preparing and submitting Final Accounts promptly, engaging in value engineering and design enhancement, monitoring preliminaries, maintaining site records and document control, handling insurance and warranties, managing risks and opportunities, supervising junior commercial staff, supporting tender processes, managing cash flow, and overseeing contracts valued over €/£15m.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Ability to manage personnel and situations with sensitivity and commercial insight.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen and creativity.
  • Exhibit ownership and a strong sense of commercial awareness.
  • Proficient in time management, organizational skills, interpersonal communication, and negotiation.
  • Experience in mentoring and managing team members.
  • Ability to balance assertiveness with pragmatism, manage large-scale complex projects, conduct negotiations, provide detailed contract condition advice, resolve contractual disputes, lead subcontract procurement, and supervise the preparation of main contract documents.

Essential Qualifications/Training:

  • Understanding of commercial principles, Behavioral Based Safety (BBS), adjudication and dispute resolution, leadership and delegation skills, introduction to management, legal overview, CPD on legislation and industry trends, CVR understanding, and strong presentation and communication skills.
