Special Educational Needs Coordinator for Primary Education

Role Summary:
In the capacity of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator, you will be instrumental in delivering customized support and interventions to students with diverse SEN requirements, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance to excel academically, socially, and emotionally. You will collaborate closely with educators, families, and external specialists to formulate and execute individualized education plans (IEPs) and support strategies tailored to the distinct needs of each student.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting assessments and evaluations to pinpoint students' specific learning requirements and developmental areas.
  • Partnering with educators and other staff to design and implement personalized learning strategies and interventions.
  • Offering individualized and small group support to students with SEN, both within the classroom and in designated SEN areas.
  • Tracking students' progress and modifying support strategies as necessary to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Engaging with parents and guardians to communicate progress, provide assistance, and address any concerns or inquiries.
  • Assisting the school's SEN Coordinator in maintaining precise records, participating in review meetings, and ensuring adherence to SEN regulations and guidelines.
  • Contributing to the establishment of a nurturing and inclusive educational atmosphere that values diversity and fosters positive outcomes for all students.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience in managing behavioral challenges and implementing effective behavior management techniques.
  • Understanding of the social and emotional needs of children with SEN, along with the ability to provide suitable support.
  • Experience working with non-verbal children and proficiency in alternative communication methods.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching qualification.
  • Specialization or additional training in SEN, such as a SEN Coordinator qualification or relevant postgraduate certificate.
  • Strong knowledge of SEN legislation, policies, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of SEN.
