Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

NP Aerospace is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Coventry, UK. As a key member of our Vehicle Systems, Services and Spares (VSSS) team, you will play a critical role in the development, enhancement, and integration of military vehicle systems and components for the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and other global partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop system designs that satisfy the needs of efficient and effective manufacture/assembly and ongoing supportability, while not compromising in terms of robustness and reliability.
  • Recognise the need for engineering change and raise engineering change requests as appropriate.
  • Problem solve design and product issues to resolve functional issues as they arise throughout the development and service lifecycle.
  • Interact with production and quality teams to investigate and obtain any necessary corrective action data.
  • Support prototype system design and build.
  • Input into the definition of V&V activity to support validation of Electrical Systems & components.
  • Support other areas of product design engineering, as required.

Requirements:

  • Proven track record of successful involvement in design & development projects – inception to launch.
  • Suitable experience in a Design office using 3D CAD software, which must include SolidWorks and Pro Engineer CREO 6.
  • Experience using PLM software, preferably EPDM and Windchill.
  • Full understanding of engineering drawings and design standards, to BS8888.
  • Familiarity with Armoured Vehicle electrical sub-systems.
  • Familiarity with configuration control and change management (Def Stan).
  • Experience in compiling Design FMEAs.
  • Experience of robust engineering practices including technical risk management.
  • Proficient user of MS Office software.
  • Previous experience in the design and development of military vehicles or their sub-systems.
  • Alternatively, experience within an aerospace or defence environment.
