About the Role

The Pirbright Institute is seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join our team in the Non-Vesicular Reference Laboratory (NVRL). As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for carrying out an experimental programme to understand the main drivers of lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV) infection in India and the effectiveness of vaccination in cattle over time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop laboratory assays to assess immune responses to infection and vaccination
  • Work in high containment animal facilities to support in vivo cattle LSDV vaccination and infection studies
  • Method development and optimisation of a whole blood interferon gamma release assay (IGRA)
  • Validation of developed assays including IGRA using samples generated from in vivo studies
  • Characterisation of immune responses to LSDV following vaccination and/or infection using existing and novel methodologies
Requirements
  • PhD in virology, immunology, or other related discipline
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and knowledge of veterinary virology and/or immunology
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques, including molecular cloning, recombinant protein production, and/or molecular diagnostics
  • Experience in immunological and cellular techniques, such as ELISA, serum neutralisation test, PBMC isolation, intracellular cytokine staining, cell culture, and T cell recall assays
