Night Operations Team Leader
Position Overview
The Night Operations Team Leader role is an excellent opportunity for those looking to enhance their leadership capabilities while guiding a team of managers and overseeing a vital department. You will have defined responsibilities, achievable goals, and comprehensive support. This is a mutually beneficial arrangement – we provide you with the necessary time and resources to mentor your team and refine your leadership abilities, while you contribute to improving the in-store experience for both customers and colleagues.
Your background in leadership could stem from any customer-oriented sector, not exclusively in Food Retail. We are eager to cultivate diverse perspectives to develop a management team that functions efficiently throughout the store. Therefore, if you lack specific technical expertise, do not be concerned; we prioritize a commitment to achieving success through your team and a passion for engaging with customers.
Key Responsibilities
Our mission is driven by our enthusiasm for food, as we strive to serve and assist every customer.
You will be operating in one of our most dynamic and intricate stores, reporting directly to the Store Manager while leading a team of managers. The environment is fast-paced, and each day will present unforeseen challenges. While you may not always have immediate solutions, your ability to address short-term issues and implement medium-term adjustments will empower your team to maintain high performance.
Our Night Operations teams are essential in ensuring our stores are prepared for the first customers of the day. They are responsible for restocking shelves, receiving warehouse deliveries, and assisting with overnight online orders. As a leader, you will maintain communication with the daytime leadership team to stay informed about ongoing plans and priorities, ensuring everything is organized and ready for our colleagues and customers in the morning.
We understand that night work may not suit everyone, and an additional annual premium of up to £4,500 is available for eligible night management positions.
Specifically, your role will involve setting the strategic direction for your area over the next 1-3 months.
Indicators of Success
There is much to learn. Each day, you will enhance your existing leadership skills while acquiring new ones. Here’s how:
• You will coach, motivate, and guide your managers to collaborate effectively, enhancing their skills and leading them through transitions.
• You will excel at helping your team empathize with customers, taking genuine pride in delivering superior service and identifying opportunities for improvement.
• You will lead through effective communication, clearly conveying performance metrics and inspiring enhancements for the present and upcoming quarters.
• You will confidently prioritize tasks and energize your team throughout the night.
• You will develop yourself as an operational expert and serve as a role model for your team.
• You will be empowered to make swift decisions and feel accountable for managing your area of the store, including acting on behalf of the Store Manager when necessary.
About You
You may currently be managing a smaller supermarket or convenience store, or you might already hold a team leadership position. Perhaps you are seeking a new challenge after a career break or transitioning from another large retail environment or sector. Regardless of your current role, you have demonstrated your ability to make a positive impact and enjoy being part of a team.
What matters most is your motivation to grow, your dedication to fostering the best in others, and your passion for customer service, which is the essence of our stores.
Career Progression
By joining Sainsbury's in-store management teams, you will receive the support and opportunity to achieve excellence. Upon joining, you will undergo a thorough induction and orientation, along with a tailored training plan developed in collaboration with your manager. They will guide and mentor you to achieve outstanding performance while allowing ample time for your development.
As one of our Lead Managers, you could advance to a Deputy Store Manager or Store Manager position. You will also be well-positioned for leadership opportunities within our head office or across the Sainsbury's family, including Habitat, Tu, Argos, Sainsbury's Bank, and Nectar 360. We are committed to maximizing your potential.
Additional Benefits
Your salary will be based on your experience, as well as the store's size, complexity, and location. In addition, we offer a comprehensive range of benefits for our managers, including:
Up to £4,500 premium for night shifts, where eligible. A 4-night work week – our full-time night managers complete their hours over 4 nights. Discount card – 10% off shopping at Sainsbury's, Argos, Tu, and Habitat after four weeks, increasing to 15% off at Sainsbury's every Friday and Saturday, and 15% off at Argos every payday. Complimentary food and hot beverages for colleagues in all stores. Generous holiday entitlement, maternity, and paternity leave. Pension – we match 4-7% of your contributions. Sainsbury's share scheme – build an investment at discounted rates. Wellbeing support – access to emotional support, counseling, legal, and financial advice. Colleague networks – connect with like-minded individuals to help realize your potential. Our Cycle to Work scheme allows you to hire a new bike and cycling equipment while saving on tax and NI. Special offers on gym memberships, restaurants, holidays, retail vouchers, and more.Click 'apply' to embark on your journey with Sainsbury's.
