Job Summary:

This is a unique chance for a trainee or mid-level Urological Surgeon to gain specialized skills in Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate and laser stone surgery. The successful candidate will be based at a major acute hospital Trust in Kent, providing general and complex care to a large population.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Shadow experienced laser surgeons in the operating theater to develop expertise in HoLEP and laser stone surgery
  • Conduct outpatient clinic consultations to assess patient needs and develop treatment plans
  • Perform unsupervised flexible cystoscopy tasks to enhance surgical skills
  • Participate in emergency on-call rotations to develop crisis management skills

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a leading healthcare provider in the South East region, recognized for its commitment to excellence and patient-centered care. The Trust operates from two hospital sites, offering a range of clinical and non-clinical roles across various departments.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess strong relationships with ward staff, including ICU, theater, nursing, and other professionals. Flexibility to cover mid-level staff absences is essential, as is active involvement in data collection, audits, and research projects related to laser procedures. Attendance at an international urological conference is compulsory.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Completed Foundation or Core Surgical training
  • MRCS qualification
  • GMC Registration
  • Prior Urology experience

Audit and Achievement:

  • Experience with audit principles
  • Active participation in Continuing Medical Education (CME)
  • Understanding of research principles

Personal Skills and Attitude:

  • Open to feedback and learning
  • Empathetic towards patients
