Job Title: Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Pharmacy Team as a Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician. As a trainee, you will embark on a 2-year distance learning training program, working under the guidance and support of our experienced pharmacy team. You will have the chance to rotate through various areas of pharmacy, including primary care, community, and hospital pharmacy departments, gaining valuable skills and knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dispensing prescriptions and understanding different types of prescriptions
  • Shadowing a Pharmacy Technician in GP practices
  • Understanding and using Standard Operating Procedures and risk management processes
  • Understanding the uses of medicines in different clinical areas (e.g. diabetes)
  • Stock supplies
  • Undertaking audits
  • Working with different IT systems

Requirements:

  • National 5 qualifications (or Intermediate 2 or Credit Standard Grades) at Grade A to C in Chemistry, Biology, Maths, and English/ESOL OR the equivalent SCQF level of qualification/award
  • Previous pharmacy experience and training to pharmacy services level 2 is desirable but not essential

Upon successful completion of the 2-year training program and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council, you will join the Primary Care Pharmacy Team at Band 4 and have the opportunity to continue your career by completing the NHS Education Scotland Vocational Training Foundation Programme for Pharmacy Technicians.

The post involves traveling to various locations, so a full, current driving license and use of your own car for work purposes are essential.

NHS Scotland is committed to reducing its full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024, with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro-rata for part-time staff.
