Job Overview

This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of Shaw Trust Supported Internships.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will possess experience in supporting neurodiverse individuals, demonstrating flexibility and a strong commitment to fostering positive change. The role requires effective communication skills and the ability to perform under pressure.

The Employment Support Specialist will:

  • Engage with vulnerable individuals to facilitate meaningful work placements and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with employers to promote inclusive hiring practices.
  • Provide tailored support to individuals at their worksite placements, including job coaching and the use of assistive technologies.
Support and Guidance

Shaw Trust is dedicated to empowering young individuals across various regions through funding from local authorities and educational institutions. This includes:

  • Offering guidance to help individuals assess their skills and set achievable learning objectives.
  • Supporting the implementation of personalized plans and regularly reviewing progress.
Commitment to Development

We seek individuals who are passionate about engaging with young people, helping them build resilience and navigate successful transitions from education to employment.

Additional Duties

The role includes:

  • Educating colleagues and management on disability awareness.
  • Coordinating events such as orientations and community presentations.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders to address training and employment challenges.
  • Providing training in essential skills such as communication and professional conduct.
  • Facilitating travel training to job sites as needed.
  • Applying for necessary allowances on behalf of individuals.
  • Ensuring compliance with legal responsibilities regarding the safety and welfare of individuals.
  • Utilizing diverse support methods tailored to individual needs.
  • Participating in relevant training programs as required.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • NVQ Level 6 or equivalent in Careers Education, Youth Work, or Social Care (or a willingness to pursue this qualification).
  • Level 3 Education and Training Award (or a willingness to pursue this qualification).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, proficient in using various IT tools to engage with a diverse audience.
  • A proactive and innovative approach to enhancing service delivery and outcomes.
  • A proven track record of meeting performance indicators and achieving positive outcomes for individuals.
  • Experience in developing new services tailored to the needs of young people.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies related to Children and Young People's Services and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
