Job Description

We are seeking a talented and ambitious Junior Lawyer to join our team at Somerset Council. As a Junior Lawyer, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of exciting projects and cases, and will be supported by our experienced and dedicated team of lawyers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting senior colleagues on matters relating to procurement, contract terms, drafting and negotiation of contracts
  • Providing comprehensive legal, procedural and administrative advice for use by officers in Committees, Sub-Committees and other bodies
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports for and providing legal advice on planning matters, including variations to planning agreements under S106 and advice on Planning Enforcement
  • Supporting and advising on planning appeals and conducting casework in the county court, High Court, Magistrates' Court and various tribunals
Requirements
  • Qualified or nearly qualified as a Solicitor, Legal Executive or Barrister
  • Enthusiastic about working as part of a legal team
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and case management systems
