Health and Safety Director

This is a dynamic leadership position that requires a strong professional to promote a positive health and safety culture across DHU Healthcare. The post holder will work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation to ensure that key stakeholders are regularly updated on the team's progress, developments, and overall performance.
Main Responsibilities- Provide expert advice and support in the development of the organisation's strategic direction and performance review for health and safety.
- Act as the competent person with support from the Health and Safety Team and external consultants.
- Investigate and report on health and safety incidents across the estate, identifying root causes and making recommendations to reduce the risk of reoccurrence.
- Provide assurance to the Board of compliance with health and safety statutory duties.
- Develop and administer procedures to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and best practice guidance.
- Formulate new Health & Safety policies and procedures, taking into account changes in legislation and recommendations made by the Health and Safety Executive.
- Produce Health & Safety reports, including quarterly reports and an annual report, within required timescales.
- Ensure health and safety risks are identified and communicated to the relevant committee, ensuring regular review to reduce the likelihood and impact of risk.
- Maintain systems of auditing and monitoring health and safety, including health and safety self-inspection checklists, across the main and peripheral sites to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and best practice.
- Ensure compliance with external assurance agencies standards relating to health and safety, devising and implementing action plans to ensure compliance.

Person SpecificationQualifications- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience providing health and safety services within the NHS, the healthcare sector, or in a large complex organisation.
- Comprehensive knowledge of health & safety legislation codes of practice, standards, and any other regulatory requirements with the ability to interpret and advise on their implications within the NHS and healthcare sector.
- Experience of working in health and safety in a senior role.
- Risk management skills.
- Ability to work with colleagues at all levels, developing strong and collaborative working relationships within the team and with key stakeholders.
- Experience of successfully managing teams.
- Proven experience of policy development and implementation.
