Position Overview

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is seeking a part-time Patient Pathway Administrator to join our dedicated team. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of our outpatient services.

This position offers a diverse and engaging experience with ample opportunities for professional growth. You will play a key role in managing patient flow within the outpatient department, including the organization of medical records and the scheduling of appointments.

Collaboration with Geriatric consultants, registrars, and nurse specialists will be a significant aspect of your role. This position serves as an excellent entry point for individuals interested in a career within the NHS, providing foundational skills that are transferable to more advanced roles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily administration and coordination of clerical tasks related to outpatient clinics, adhering to national policies and local guidelines.
  • Deliver administrative support to medical teams, ensuring compliance with the Trust's quality standards.
  • Assist and provide guidance to patients, caregivers, and other stakeholders contacting the service.
  • Facilitate patient pathways in alignment with local and national Referral to Treatment (RTT) guidelines.
  • Manage clinic slot availability proactively to maximize service efficiency while considering annual leave impacts.
  • Utilize relevant systems to maintain patient data and manage the patient pathway effectively.

Role Requirements

  • Register new patient referrals promptly within the designated timeframe.
  • Manage referrals as prioritized by our consultants.
  • Ensure patients are placed on the appropriate waiting lists and that necessary correspondence is dispatched in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Coordinate with consultants for urgent appointments.
  • Identify and notify relevant departments regarding overseas visitors or private patients.
  • Ensure proper booking of patients for relevant consultants.
  • Prepare patient records for clinics in compliance with Directorate Guidelines.
  • Generate a preparation list from the system at least two weeks in advance to ensure clinic readiness.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE level education in Mathematics and English.

  • Familiarity with NHS processes.
