As a Clinical Psychotherapist, you will also be an essential part of our expanding national psychological services.

Your role will primarily involve direct interactions with clients, with some flexibility to work remotely. The ideal candidate may also be suitable for a Preceptorship role. Clinical supervision and professional development will be overseen by the Head of Psychology.

Job Duties

1. Promote the psychological health and well-being of individuals utilizing our services.

2. Provide specialized psychological and psychotherapeutic assessment and intervention services to individuals, groups, and organizations, employing various applied psychology models.

3. Manage a caseload and deliver direct services for complex psychological issues, often functioning independently as the qualified Psychologist within a multidisciplinary team.

4. Formulate and implement therapy or treatment plans based on appropriate conceptual frameworks, utilizing evidence-based methods across diverse care settings. Monitor and evaluate progress, adjusting formulations and interventions as necessary.

5. Communicate sensitively and effectively regarding assessment, formulation, therapy, and treatment plans, while monitoring and evaluating progress.

6. Conduct risk assessments and manage individual service users within a suitable psychological framework, providing guidance to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk management.

7. Exercise professional autonomy in the assessment, therapy, treatment, and discharge of service users managed through psychologically based care plans.

8. Collaborate as a core member of the multidisciplinary team, ensuring access to a psychologically informed framework for understanding the care of service users through advice, consultation, and dissemination of psychological research and theory.

9. Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment regarding the sharing of sensitive information with professional colleagues and agencies.

10. Uphold professional standards required for registration and accountability for professional actions, guided by relevant codes of conduct.

11. Provide clinical supervision to team members and assist in training and supporting the delivery of psychosocial interventions for individuals with substance use challenges.

12. Advise management on psychological and organizational matters requiring attention.

13. Engage in ongoing professional development, including supervision, performance reviews, and training as needed.

14. Adhere to all relevant legislation, policies, procedures, and guidelines.

15. Stay informed about policy and professional developments within your area of expertise.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Postgraduate doctoral level training as a practitioner psychologist, accredited by a professional body.
  • Or a postgraduate qualification in Psychotherapy, psychodynamic therapy, or systemic therapy.
  • Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Or registered with a relevant professional body such as the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) or the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC).

Desirable:

  • Membership in specialist interest groups relevant to the client population.

Skills

Essential:

  • Strong communication skills to convey complex, sensitive information effectively to clients, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to maintain effective communication in challenging situations.
  • Capacity to exercise professional autonomy and clinical responsibility in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Understanding of compassion fatigue and secondary trauma, with the ability to respond empathetically to staff experiencing these issues.
  • Self-awareness and recognition of how personal reactions to adversity may impact interactions with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to model compassion and kindness to foster a supportive professional culture.

Desirable:

  • Flexibility in adapting assessment and intervention strategies to meet the needs of complex clients.
  • Experience working with both young people and adult service users and their families.
