About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Mathematics department as a Director of Mathematics. This is a key leadership role that requires a strong educational background, excellent teaching skills, and the ability to inspire and motivate students to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management
    • Provide strategic direction and vision for the Mathematics department, ensuring that it aligns with the academy's overall goals and objectives.
    • Lead and manage a team of Mathematics teachers, providing guidance, support, and coaching to ensure that they are equipped to deliver high-quality teaching and learning.
    • Develop and implement effective policies and procedures to ensure that the Mathematics department is well-organized and efficient.
  • Teaching and Learning
    • Develop and deliver high-quality Mathematics lessons that cater to the needs of all students, including those with special educational needs.
    • Monitor and evaluate student progress, identifying areas of strength and weakness, and developing strategies to address any gaps in knowledge or understanding.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement effective teaching and learning strategies that promote student engagement and motivation.
  • Curriculum Development
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive Mathematics curriculum that meets the needs of all students, including those with special educational needs.
    • Work with colleagues to develop and implement effective assessment strategies that measure student progress and achievement.
    • Stay up-to-date with developments in Mathematics education, incorporating new ideas and approaches into the curriculum.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure that everyone is informed and engaged in the Mathematics department's activities.
    • Collaborate with other departments to develop and implement effective cross-curricular initiatives that promote student learning and achievement.
    • Represent the Mathematics department at academy events and meetings, promoting the department's work and achievements.
Requirements
  • Qualifications and Experience
    • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a good, relevant undergraduate degree.
    • Have a minimum of two years' teaching experience, with a proven track record of raising student achievement.
    • Have experience of leading others, ensuring high-quality performance and achievement.
    • Have successful experience of implementing monitoring, evaluation, and review processes to improve teaching and learning.
    • Have a high level of ICT skills and experience of using new technologies to raise student achievement.
    • Have recent experience of involvement in innovative curriculum development.
    • Have experience of presenting to a wide audience, including teachers, other managers, students, and parents.
    • Understand creative whole-school strategies for improving literacy and numeracy and the importance of this in raising achievement.
    • Have some successful experience of leading on cross-subject initiatives that have contributed to raising achievement.
    • Have experience of embedding innovative strategies for Assessment for Learning and Learning to Learn.
    • Have recent and relevant experience of managing and implementing change successfully at subject leader level.
    • Be willing to use coaching as a model for ensuring ongoing professional development.

    • Have excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
    • Be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

    • Be able to stay up-to-date with developments in Mathematics education and incorporate new ideas and approaches into the curriculum.
