Position Overview

The Lead Test Centre Engineer plays a pivotal role within the Test Centre team, reporting directly to the Test Centre Manager. This position is integral to the GL Test Centre group, providing essential engineering and testing support along with technical guidance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Daily Operations: Assist the Test Centre Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Test Centre.
  • Deputy Management: Act as the deputy to the Test Centre Manager when necessary.
  • Supervision: Supervise sub-groups and individual team members within the Test Centre.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate various measuring and data logging equipment, ensuring accurate data collection.
  • Project Management: Lead projects involving rig construction, modifications, commissioning, and development tailored to testing requirements.
  • Documentation Control: Manage the production, control, and distribution of essential documentation.
  • Data Management: Cultivate advanced expertise in Test Centre databases to generate data reports and presentations as needed.
  • Standards Promotion: Advocate for high standards in line with a Centre of Excellence dedicated to continuous improvement.
  • Project Responsibility: The Lead Test Engineer assumes full accountability for test and rig projects.
  • Health and Safety Support: Support ongoing and future health, safety, and environmental initiatives.
  • Budget Management: Play an active role in budget control and management.

This role requires normal office hours, with occasional extensions for special circumstances. Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills are essential for effective collaboration in a multidisciplinary environment. A positive and supportive attitude towards team members and Test Centre clients is crucial. Candidates should maintain an organized workspace and demonstrate the ability to adapt to the dynamic nature of the Technology Centre.

Qualifications

A degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, coupled with relevant experience, is required. Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office and CAD, is essential. Experience with testing equipment and relevant instrumentation is necessary. A formal qualification in Health and Safety or a demonstrated capability in this area would be advantageous.
