Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Finance Business Partner responsible for overseeing Income and Operational Expenditure (Opex). This role involves business collaboration, comprehensive reporting, forecasting, and in-depth analysis to support various projects aimed at innovating and enhancing railway systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Your role will encompass the following duties:
- Critically assess and provide expert advice on periodic financial outcomes and forecasts, identifying risks and opportunities to mitigate financial and legal impacts.
- Deliver professional recommendations on accounting standards to ensure compliance and financial integrity.
- Oversee the preparation of periodic accounts and business plans, enabling informed decision-making.
- Analyze and influence cost and income drivers to achieve annual business objectives.
- Guide and challenge senior budget holders on their financial performance and forecasts to enhance management effectiveness.
- Evaluate budget submissions and propose initiatives for cost savings and operational efficiency.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to support decision-making and drive efficiencies.
- Lead financial performance meetings with budget holders, providing strategic financial guidance.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to develop and implement investment strategies and new business initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Membership or progress towards membership of a recognized accounting body (CIMA/ACCA/ICAEW) or equivalent experience.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills across all organizational levels.
- Proven experience in a complex financial setting, with a strong background in risk management and financial governance.
- A solid track record in budget management and the ability to interpret financial landscapes.
- Experience in navigating ambiguity within financial contexts, demonstrating strong analytical and decision-making capabilities.
- Robust technical knowledge of finance and accounting principles, applied in a commercial environment.
- A degree in a relevant field such as finance, accounting, or business management, or equivalent experience.
Desirable Attributes:
It would be advantageous to have:
- Full membership of a relevant postgraduate professional body (CIMA/ACCA/ICAEW).
- Experience with Oracle-based financial systems.
- Extensive experience across multiple finance disciplines.
- Knowledge of government accounting and financial governance.
- Understanding of project management principles and experience in managing complex projects.
