Key Responsibilities:

As the Lead Project Engineer, you will take on critical responsibilities including:

Serving as the technical authority and responsible engineer for various projects, programs, or product developments. You will ensure the delivery of technically compliant solutions that meet project objectives, including schedule, budget, quality, and performance standards, while adhering to established processes and practices. You will act as the primary technical liaison for the project, both internally and externally.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Leading the technical aspects of a program, project, or product development
  • Taking on the engineering lead role within an Integrated Product Team (IPT)
  • Collaborating effectively with project leadership
  • Ensuring compliance with technical, schedule, and cost performance plans
  • Serving as the focal point for the engineering team, both internally and externally
  • Integrating a multi-functional engineering team to achieve program objectives
  • Building and maintaining strong customer relationships based on trust and respect
  • Facilitating communication and collaboration with customers and suppliers
  • Overseeing all technical elements of the program, reporting to the engineering manager
  • Defining, documenting, and ensuring the completeness of the Engineering Management Plan and Requirements
  • Utilizing SOF-E throughout the development lifecycle
  • Monitoring the engineering team's performance against established plans
  • Working with program leadership to implement corrective actions for performance issues
  • Managing technical risks associated with the program
  • Optimizing design for various factors, including cost, testing, assembly, reliability, and environmental impact

Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience

Essential Skills:

  • Proven ability to lead and manage high-performing multi-functional engineering teams
  • Demonstrated engineering expertise and understanding of products, customers, and markets
  • Experience working within a large organization in a matrix management environment
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, especially in complex situations
  • Ability to build excellent relationships with key project stakeholders and the IPT
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Ability to exemplify organizational values and behaviors
  • Expertise in engineering processes, practices, and performance metrics
  • Experience leading Integrated Product Teams in manufacturing, preferably in defense or commercial aerospace
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership capabilities
  • Understanding of business finance and the ability to connect financial outcomes with operational actions
  • Experience in mechanical, electro-mechanical, fluid systems, mechanisms, structures, or systems product development
  • Motivated and proactive, with a focus on driving solutions to completion
  • Comprehensive understanding of the engineering product lifecycle
  • Experience in requirements management and verification, with familiarity in tools like DOORS or CRADLE being advantageous
  • Appreciation for Systems Engineering Management
  • Experience with engineering sign-off for documentation
  • Natural problem solver with a solutions-oriented mindset
