We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Orthoptist to join our team at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. As a Band 5 or 6 Orthoptist, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive and high-quality Orthoptic services to patients with ocular motility disorders, binocular vision disorders, and amblyopia.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide accurate and acute observations, taking into account the interpretation of a broad range of specialized clinical options.
- Work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary cross-site team in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients.
- Develop and monitor effective treatment plans using specialist skills based on clinical and analytical reasoning.
- Carry out Orthoptic vision screening in school reception classes.
- Participate in the clinical supervision and teaching of undergraduate Orthoptic students, medical students, Ophthalmic nurses, optometrists, and other health professionals.
- Contribute to departmental audit and research projects.
- Carry out visual field perimetry.
- Maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills required to practise as an orthoptist.
- Develop post-qualification clinical skills in conjunction with and under the supervision of Senior Orthoptists.
The successful candidate will be based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, with cross-site working at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford when required. The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust has recently undergone a major redevelopment of the Eye Department, providing modern facilities to deliver excellent ophthalmic care for our patients.
