Position Overview
The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant in Medical Oncology to enhance our Oncology Department.
This position is integral to the Medical Oncology division, where the successful candidate will collaborate with a dedicated team of senior medical professionals, including Consultants and Specialty and Associate Specialists (SAS). You will join a supportive and established team, committed to advancing the quality of care provided to our patients. As a senior team member, you will play a vital role in mentoring and guiding junior colleagues, fostering a culture of learning and development.
We prioritize the wellbeing of our staff, offering a comprehensive range of support services to promote health and wellness within the workplace. Our Health and Wellbeing team has received national recognition for their outstanding contributions to staff support.
Key Responsibilities
As a senior member of the Oncology team, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering training and supervision to junior medical and nursing staff, as well as allied health professionals.
- Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure collaborative patient care.
- Providing evidence-based treatment in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Maintaining ongoing responsibility for the care of your patients, including all associated administrative tasks, supported by dedicated secretarial staff.
- Developing sub-specialty interests that align with the strategic goals of the Trust.
- Engaging in teaching, examination, and accreditation duties, contributing to both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
- Participating in clinical audits and continuing medical education initiatives.
- Responding to emergencies and unforeseen circumstances as required.
This role does not involve participation in an out-of-hours consultant rota.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications:
- Full registration with the General Medical Council.
- MRCP or equivalent qualification.
- CCT in Medical Oncology or eligibility for the Specialist Register in Medical Oncology.
Essential Clinical Experience:
- Extensive experience in General Medicine and Oncology.
- Research experience.
- Strong practical clinical skills.
Management and Administrative Skills:
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Demonstrated leadership skills within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience in audit and management practices.
- Flexibility in work organization and the ability to lead project teams.
- Evidence of training in management and leadership skills.
