Job Overview

An excellent opportunity has emerged for a Facilities Maintenance Technician at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to become a vital part of our dynamic Estates & Facilities Management Team. The technician will be engaged in both engineering sectors, having received training that extends beyond their primary expertise. They will possess a blend of Electrical and Mechanical skills, achieving a level of adaptability and proficiency that allows them to undertake various responsibilities, including general upkeep and installation of the intricate systems that constitute the infrastructure of the facility.

Key Responsibilities

- Diagnose, test, and rectify faults in engineering, electrical, and plumbing systems, addressing new challenges as they arise while sharing knowledge with colleagues.

- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of domestic hot water, mains cold water, plumbing, high-temperature hot water heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and steam heating systems to facilitate effective diagnostics and repairs.

- Maintain and repair various types of pumps, circulation systems, belt drives, pulleys, and direct drive systems.

- Collaborate with the in-house maintenance team while also exercising initiative with minimal oversight.

Job Duties

- Test, diagnose, and repair faults in engineering, electrical, and plumbing installations, plant, and equipment, while adapting to new situations and imparting knowledge to others.

- Understand the operation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within healthcare facilities.

- Provide instruction to others regarding the aforementioned systems and other aspects of their work.

- Execute a diverse range of tasks across various trades.

- Manufacture, assemble, erect, and install new systems.

- Conduct repairs, maintain, and efficiently operate plant and equipment.

- Utilize all relevant tools and equipment effectively.

- Engage in learning new procedures and technologies to enhance work methods, thereby increasing departmental efficiency and utilization.

- Perform planned preventive maintenance on these systems, along with any additional duties assigned by Team Leaders that align with their capabilities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Recognized and registered EITB, City & Guilds qualification or equivalent approved training.
