Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist to join our team at London Bridge Hospital. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for supervising the department and providing a high-quality and comprehensive 24-hour pathology service for laboratory users.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deputise for the Department Head in their absence and ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the laboratory.
  • Supervise and manage a team of Biomedical Scientists and ensure that all laboratory procedures are carried out efficiently and effectively.
  • Monitor and resolve outstanding lists, ensuring that all samples are processed and reported in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with the 3rd Party Liaison Officer to ensure urgent work is completed on time and that all samples are received and processed correctly.
  • Ensure that all laboratory equipment is maintained and calibrated regularly, and that all necessary records are kept up to date.
  • Develop and implement new laboratory procedures and protocols as required, and ensure that all staff are trained and competent in their use.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the laboratory's quality management system, ensuring that all procedures are in line with UKAS accreditation standards.
  • Provide training and support to junior staff and ensure that they are competent in all aspects of laboratory procedures.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the laboratory's business plan, ensuring that all goals and objectives are met.
Requirements
  • BSc. Biomedical Science or equivalent qualification.
  • HCPC registration and membership of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.
  • Experience of working in a laboratory setting, with a strong understanding of laboratory procedures and protocols.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of clinical biochemistry and laboratory procedures.
