Key Responsibilities

Located at Livability Victoria School, the Rehabilitation Specialist will oversee the therapeutic services for students with complex medical conditions, frequently accompanied by challenges such as autism. You will hold clinical responsibility for the therapeutic interventions aimed at enhancing functional life skills and sensory processing, thereby minimizing obstacles to learning and integrating therapeutic strategies into the educational curriculum.

Responsibilities of the Role

Primary Duties

- Collaborate with senior management at Livability Victoria School, contributing to the therapy services for students.

- Support the implementation of therapeutic strategies within the educational curriculum, considering the assessment process and the latest methodologies adopted by the institution.

- Work alongside the College Management Team to aid in the development and execution of the college's strategic plan concerning occupational therapy services.

- Establish and enhance a regular service review for the therapeutic provision, in addition to overseeing the annual review process to ensure students' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) accurately reflect their current needs.

- Analyze and report on students' progress and achievement of therapy-related objectives using outcome measures.

- Provide daily supervision for the Rehabilitation Assistant, ensuring that appropriate support levels are maintained in accordance with HCPC professional guidelines.

- Oversee the management of the therapeutic equipment inventory and monitor stock levels in the therapy department, requesting new supplies as necessary.

- Ensure that all college staff receive appropriate training related to therapeutic services, ensuring this training is conducted regularly.

- Manage and supervise the clinical practices of external therapy-related contractors, such as locums and consultants.

- Advise on the necessary therapeutic provisions to meet the needs of prospective new students.

- Maintain an up-to-date and advanced level of specialized theoretical knowledge and evidence-based therapeutic practices, participating in relevant training and attending mandatory professional development courses.

- Continuously enhance knowledge and expertise related to applied behavior analysis, autism, and associated disabilities.

- Access regular professional supervision to develop skills in reflective practice and obtain professional support regarding clinical governance and emerging professional issues.

- Promote and uphold the positive reputation of Livability Victoria School and its various divisions.

- Undertake any other reasonable tasks related to the role as required.

Clinical Responsibilities

The Rehabilitation Specialist will maintain a direct clinical caseload and will be responsible for the following tasks related to that caseload:

- Assessing, planning, and implementing suitable therapeutic interventions for students, either individually or in small groups, addressing a wide range of needs.

- Integrating therapy objectives into classroom settings, including overseeing educators in delivering therapeutic programs.

- Evaluating therapeutic outcomes and reporting findings.

- Preparing reports to contribute to the Annual Review and attending meetings as necessary.

- Demonstrating clinical effectiveness through evidence-based practices and outcome measures.

- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case notes in accordance with professional standards and institutional policies.

- Adhering to local and national standards and guidelines related to professional practice and maintaining registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Recognized therapy degree/qualification.
  • HCPC License to Practice.
  • Registration with the relevant therapy body.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and successful completion of specialist short courses/membership in relevant special interest groups.
  • Proven experience as a qualified clinician.
  • Experience working at a band 6/7 level within a relevant specialist environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with young individuals diagnosed with autism.
  • Experience in supervising other professionals and providing guidance.
  • Well-established knowledge of various assessment, intervention, and outcome approaches relevant to the service user group.
  • Knowledge of record-keeping standards and confidentiality protocols.
  • Interest in behavior analysis and its application in a therapeutic context is a significant advantage.
  • Experience in leading a team of educators and supporting them in curriculum-related areas.

  • Ability to produce high-quality work with appropriate rigor within tight deadlines.
  • Capability to develop suitable resources within the lead area.

  • Willingness to learn, undertake training, and assume responsibility when necessary.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practices and the ability to promote the well-being of learners with severe, profound, and multiple learning difficulties and disabilities, who may communicate through challenging behavior.
  • Ability to promote equality and diversity, recognizing and actively challenging stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination, ensuring these principles are integrated into all working practices.
  • Capability to coordinate and document staff meetings.
