We are seeking a highly skilled Atmospheric Dispersion Scientist to join our team at the Atomic Weapons Establishment. As a key member of our Radiological Assessment Team, you will play a critical role in supporting atmospheric dispersion and hazard prediction through experimental trials, scientific research, and software model development.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and participate in the research and development of appropriate tools to predict the hazards associated with an atmospheric release of radiological material.
- Run and develop atmospheric dispersion models, conduct consequence assessments for specific scenarios of interest, and participate in experimental trials and collaboration with overseas organisations.
- Conduct research and modelling to determine source term parameters, plan and deliver technical assessments using appropriate methodologies, and engage with technical communities across AWE.
- Contribute to interactions with international partners and external stakeholders in their field, and provide innovative and novel solutions to complex problems with a view to leading activities in their domain.
- A PhD in physics, maths, computer science or an equivalent STEM-based discipline, or graduates with relevant post-graduate experience.
- Experience in code development for scientific programming, including Python and/or MatLab.
- A methodical approach in undertaking technical research and conducting technical assessments to draw sound scientific conclusions.
- Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and through technical reports, and interpret, analyse and present data in a coherent and engaging manner.
