Position Overview

The East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Versatile Electrical Maintenance Engineer to become a vital member of the Mechanical Engineering Team.

This role involves delivering high-quality maintenance, repair, and modification services across a diverse range of Electrical, Mechanical, and Building Services within the organization.

Compensation may be negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

You will be tasked with the repair, maintenance, and installation of various systems, equipment, and building structures associated with all organizational properties. This includes:

  • Planned Preventative Maintenance
  • Testing and Calibration
  • Fault Diagnosis
  • Emergency Response
  • Defect Rectification
  • New Installations

Candidates should possess a recognized trade apprenticeship and hold a BTEC HNC/diploma in Engineering or an equivalent City and Guilds qualification, along with substantial experience in non-routine maintenance of complex engineering systems.

Detailed Responsibilities

Communication and Relationship Management

Excellent communication skills are essential for maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues across various levels and departments. You must be tactful and possess persuasive abilities to handle complex and sensitive information.

You will also be responsible for training and evaluating users of specific systems and equipment, ensuring clarity in explaining operational and technical matters to various stakeholders.

Participation in departmental meetings and briefings is required.

Knowledge, Training, and Experience

Candidates must have completed a recognized trade apprenticeship and hold a BTEC HNC/diploma in Engineering or an equivalent City and Guilds qualification, along with practical and theoretical engineering knowledge gained through significant experience in their field.

Completion of accredited courses for Hospital Competent Persons is necessary, along with mandatory training as per organizational policy.

  • Asbestos Awareness
  • Fire Safety
  • First Aid
  • Infection Control

Additional Specialist Training May Include:

  • IEE Wiring Regulations
  • Inspection and Testing
  • Portable Appliance Testing

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake further training to enhance their skill set and achieve a high standard of service delivery.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Completion of a recognized trade apprenticeship and possession of a BTEC/HNC/Diploma in Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience in non-routine maintenance of complex engineering systems.

Desirable:

  • Additional certifications relevant to the trade.
  • First Aid and Infection Control training.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Proven experience in maintenance of complex engineering systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and make informed decisions.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and safety procedures.
