Criminal and Enforcement Lawyer

Essex County Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervising Associate Criminal and Enforcement Lawyer to join our Dispute Resolution and Employment Law Team.
About the RoleWe are looking for a qualified solicitor or barrister with significant post-qualification experience to provide high-quality legal advice to our clients. As a Supervising Associate, you will be responsible for leading the provision of timely and accurate legal advice, delivering the strategic business plan for legal services, and assisting with the development of staff in ELS.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert legal advice to clients on a range of matters, including fraud and fraudulent trading cases, consumer complaint prosecutions, and planning and environmental enforcement prosecutions.
- Lead the provision of timely and accurate legal advice to produce the best possible outcomes for clients.
- Responsible for delivering the strategic business plan for legal services, which supports and drives the Council's wider Organisation Strategy and vision.
- Assist with the development of staff in ELS through supervision and line management, and delivery of training and informal learning.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
- Qualified solicitor or barrister or chartered legal executive enrolled with the Solicitors Regulation Authority or the Bar Standards Board or the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, as appropriate.
- Significant experience of working within a legal setting in a politically sensitive environment, providing high-quality advice to a wide range of customers.
- Commercial awareness and financial acumen, with sufficient professional credibility to maintain the existing client base and develop new streams of business.
