MDE Consultants Ltd is seeking a skilled Proposals and Estimating Engineer with expertise in low voltage systems, specifically in Motor Control Centers (MCCs), Switchboards, and Control Panels.

We serve a prestigious clientele in sectors such as Water, Power & Energy, Pharmaceuticals, and Food & Beverage, delivering large-scale automation systems and cutting-edge technology.

Role Overview

The primary responsibility of this role is to manage the estimating and proposals process for our low voltage offerings, including MCCs, Switchboards, and Control Panels. The successful candidate will be tasked with evaluating, prioritizing, and producing high-quality, competitive proposals while collaborating closely with clients and their engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage actively within the Proposals function, coordinating with regional offices and the sales team.
  • Analyze tender and enquiry documentation to facilitate informed 'bid/no-bid' decisions in line with the client’s quality assurance protocols.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather timely and precise information for the development of competitive proposals.
  • Prepare comprehensive and competitive proposal documents using established templates.
  • Ensure proposals are submitted in a timely manner for review and approval, adhering to current authorization procedures.
  • Maintain clarity and precision in proposals to safeguard the client's commercial and contractual interests.
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings to transition successful proposals to the project execution team.
  • Conduct site meetings as required to assess client needs, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Report any significant commercial, technical, or contractual risks associated with proposals to senior management, documenting all risks in the Project Portal.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and efficiency within the proposals team, utilizing feedback from project execution and close-out meetings.
  • Assist in the development of the Quoting Portal and costing spreadsheets to accurately capture costs and project scope.
  • Ensure the Project Portal is regularly updated with follow-up information such as expected order dates and competitive positioning.

Essential Qualifications

  • Strong technical understanding of MCCs, Switchboards, and Control Panels.
  • Ability to assess user requirements and project specifications to inform proposal strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with clients and internal teams.
  • Proven organizational skills to manage unpredictable workloads and meet tight deadlines.
  • In-depth knowledge of contractual arrangements and industry best practices.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development through training and performance reviews.

Experience Required

Demonstrated experience in estimating for electrical/control panels and MCCs is essential.

  • Technical expertise in control systems and low voltage electrical solutions.
  • Ability to understand and respond to client needs effectively.
  • Capability to estimate project costs accurately.
  • Strong communication skills across all organizational levels and with clients.
