Job Summary:
The ideal candidate will be either an Apprentice or a recent Graduate.
Daily responsibilities will include operating within a Gas Laboratory, focusing on the testing and calibration of gas detection instruments. Familiarity with Spectrophotometry is a plus, though not a requirement. Typical tools utilized in this role include pressure sensors, flow meters, gas mixing pumps, and temperature sensors, along with the internal calibration of these devices.
Experience handling compressed gases, regulators, and gas cylinders is beneficial.
Knowledge of gas chromatography is advantageous but not essential.
Candidates should possess or be pursuing a qualification such as a BTEC in a relevant Science discipline, such as Chemistry or Physics.
Responsibilities include conducting a variety of testing procedures, accurately collecting and documenting data, interpreting results, and engaging in non-standardized research and development projects. The technician will assemble and disassemble test samples, troubleshoot equipment issues, and maintain direct communication with clients to provide and gather information. Feedback regarding modifications to experimental setups and equipment will be communicated to management.

May participate in small teams on special projects as identified by management.Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for completing assigned projects within agreed timelines and budgets. Conducts a variety of testing procedures on sample equipment, interpreting results according to applicable standards. Collaborates with Certifiers to determine necessary tests and sample quantities. Assembles and prepares laboratory test equipment for testing, operating most equipment independently. Records technical data, drafts reports, and writes product descriptions. Performs calculations to summarize test results and relates findings to product specifications. Acts as a liaison with other departments as required. Identifies and documents any substandard features of products during testing and communicates them to the appropriate personnel. Maintains cleanliness and organization of tools, equipment, and workspaces post-testing. Follows up on any non-conformances related to calibration, under supervision. Ensures the integrity of customer samples while in the laboratory. Collaborates with certifiers to plan activities, exchange information, and review lab reports. May conduct fieldwork and assist in tasks outside the laboratory as necessary. Performs additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. Processes paperwork jobs from initiation to distribution where engineering is not involved, if required.Work Environment
Requires the ability to move and lift heavy cylinders and testing equipment in compliance with safety regulations. Willingness to travel as necessary. Requires concentration to work with electrical systems and compressed gases during testing. Utilizes various senses to assess testing results, while being aware of potential hazards. Frequently operates environmental test chambers.Preferred Education & Experience
Qualification in Chemistry or Environmental Science. Practical experience with testing and measurement instruments, including oscilloscopes and multimeters. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and test data. Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation and general laboratory procedures. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and self-motivation. Proficiency in technical report writing and computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel).Here's what we offer
