About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialty Doctor to join our Substance Misuse Treatment Service in Gateshead. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality services that adhere to best practice guidelines and achieve high professional standards.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing clinical assessments and relevant psychiatric and physical investigations for a wide range of substance misusers
  • Keeping accurate and up-to-date medical and administrative documentation, including computer records
  • Liaising closely with other professionals and organizations to ensure effective care and support for our service users
  • Initiating appropriate prescribing regimes and providing specialist prescribing assessments for clients with substance use disorders
  • Working collaboratively with the nursing team to ensure effective administration, record keeping, and correspondence with other relevant bodies
  • Conducting phlebotomy tests and supporting the nursing team in ensuring that service users are tested for BBVs and vaccinated against Hepatitis A and B
  • Supporting the nursing team in titrating patients safely onto treatment regimes
  • Attending multidisciplinary meetings and promoting the nomination of named link workers and integrated care pathways

About You

We are looking for a medical professional with:

  • A medical degree and completion of Basic Medical Training and Full GMC UK Registration with License to Practice
  • Experience in delivering evidence-based treatments in substance misuse
  • Good knowledge of addiction psychiatry and legislation relating to mental health
  • Demonstrable evidence of effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of the issues facing substance misusers, including medical interventions, social care, and health issues
  • A capacity to work alone and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • A proven ability to liaise and maintain professional relationships with diverse individuals
