The Project Accountant is essential in overseeing the financial dimensions of significant mechanical projects. The successful candidate will manage project budgets, recognize revenue and costs, forecast financial outcomes, generate cash flow reports based on project milestones, and ensure that all financial operations align with corporate objectives and industry standards. This role demands a meticulous professional with robust analytical capabilities, outstanding communication skills, and a background in manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Oversight: Supervise and assess the financial performance of projects, ensuring adherence to budgets and achievement of financial goals.
- Budgeting and Reporting: Develop comprehensive project budgets, forecasts, and financial statements for management review.
- Cost Analysis: Evaluate project expenditures, identify discrepancies, and propose corrective measures.
- Revenue and Expense Recognition: Guarantee timely and precise recognition of project revenues and costs, following applicable accounting principles.
- Contract Review: Examine contract stipulations to ascertain suitable revenue recognition approaches.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with various departments to ensure proper documentation and tracking of financial activities.
- Cash Flow Management: Create and oversee project cash flows based on project progress and invoicing milestones.
- Project Closure: Ensure timely project closure and reconciliation of project sub-ledgers with the general ledger on a monthly basis.
- Cost Control: Establish and uphold cost control systems and procedures.
- Expenditure Review: Assess and authorize project-related expenses, ensuring compliance with budgetary limits.
- Financial Reporting: Generate regular financial reports, including cost monitoring, profitability assessments, and variance analyses.
Qualifications:
To excel in this position, candidates should possess:
- A professional accountancy qualification (CIMA or ACCA) with a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in revenue and cost recognition, as well as cash flow management for large-scale projects.
- Experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, LN).
- Advanced Excel capabilities, including financial modeling and data analysis.
