Job Description

Job Title: Podiatrist Specialist

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Podiatrist Specialist to join our Central Podiatry Team at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will provide high-quality care to moderate and high-risk patients in a variety of settings, working as part of a highly motivated team.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Provide Efficient and Effective Treatment: The Podiatrist Specialist will provide efficient, effective, and high-quality treatment to patients in a range of different settings, including community and acute settings.
  2. Develop Treatment Plans: The post holder will develop treatment plans for high-risk and moderate-level patients with podiatric problems, including a course of treatment, foot health education, advice, and discharge as appropriate.
  3. Work in Challenging Conditions: The Podiatrist Specialist will work in challenging conditions, often working in isolation, and provide services at a wide variety of sites, including patients' homes, clinics, GP practices, community hospitals, and other settings.
  4. Manage Clinical Caseload: The successful candidate will manage a clinical caseload of patients with a wide variety of conditions, ensuring that patients benefit from high-quality, evidence-based interventions, which will be delivered and recorded according to professional standards and legal requirements.

Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications:

  • A relevant diploma/degree in Chiropody/Podiatric Medicine from a recognized institution.
  • Continued registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • A certificate in local anaesthesia.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Prescribing for Podiatrists.
  • Diploma in Diabetes Care.
  • Health Education Certificate.
  • Teachers Certificate.
  • Preparation for Mentoring Course.
  • Radiology and Diagnostic Skills.
  • Shoe Fitting Skills.
  • ECDL European Computer Driving Licence.
  • Clinical Educator qualification.

Essential Experience and Knowledge:

  • A history of continual professional development while continuing to attend organized departmental and regional/national events.
  • A high degree of knowledge over a wide range of clinical conditions, including diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, peripheral vascular disease, biomechanics, and manual dexterity.

Desirable Experience and Knowledge:

  • A range of relevant short courses.
  • Held a previous post in the relevant field.

Other Essential Requirements:

  • A current driving licence.
