Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Paediatric Diabetes Dietitian to join our dynamic team. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is passionate about delivering high-quality care to children and young people with diabetes.

We are a small but dynamic team of Dietitians, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech and Language Therapy professionals, based in the community across both Scunthorpe and Grimsby sites. The successful candidate will provide specialist Paediatric Diabetic Dietetic assessment and management of children aged 0-19 years within community and inpatient settings.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Provide specialist assessment, management, and interventions for children and young people with diabetes across a range of settings.
  • Work within inpatient, outpatient, and community settings, homes, and schools.
  • Provide high-quality specialist care to children and young people with complex dietetic presentations (diabetes).
  • Provide training and education as appropriate for parents, carers, young people, and other professionals.
  • Take an active part in the Diabetes Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) and regular attendance at MDT clinics.
  • Assist the Operational Lead and Team Leads in planning and developing the service.
  • Contribute to information and data collection for reporting to commissioners and monitor information relevant to own area of the service.
  • Manage a defined caseload of more complex patients using advanced evidence-based and patient-centred principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions, including discharge.
  • Provide day-to-day support and responsibility for line management of junior Band 5 and non-registered staff, as delegated by your supervisor.
  • Supervise students on practice placement as appropriate.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Degree/Post Graduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • HCPC Registration

Desirable Criteria

  • Membership of BDA
  • Membership of BDA Paediatric Specialist Group
  • Postgraduate study in appropriate clinical areas e.g. MSc modules in paediatrics
  • Relevant accredited courses related to clinical areas in adult or paediatric dietetics
  • Wide range of CPD activities, esp. related to specialist area
  • Insulin pump training
  • Paediatric Diabetes training

Clinical

Essential Criteria

  • Postgraduate clinical experience of working with a broad range of patients across a variety of settings at postgraduate level (minimum of 12 months experience)
  • Clinical experience as Autonomous practitioner for management of less complex clinical paediatric clinical pathways e.g. CMA and weight management
  • Experience of working with at least one complex paediatric pathway e.g. enteral tube feeding with senior supervision and support
  • Evidence of working in a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable Criteria

  • Post-registration experience within diabetes

Management and Leadership

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of leading a project at least at undergraduate level

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of leading on a project at postgraduate level
  • Experience of deputising for senior team members in a clinical or non-clinical capacity
  • Experience of supervising/mentoring junior staff, dietetic assistants, and students.
