Salary: £29,486 per annum (Band D, level 3, inclusive of outer London weighting)

Term: Permanent

Working Hours: 35 hours per week

Role Overview:

The mission of our Heritage Services is to cultivate environments where users can explore and be inspired by the rich history of Scouting, the Movement, and its members. As we deepen our understanding of the Collection, we continuously uncover remarkable narratives spanning over 117 years of history. Our small, passionate team is committed to supporting one another and learning from our diverse experiences and expertise.

The stories within the Scout Heritage Collection are filled with unexpected insights, from tales of innovation and adventure to acts of bravery and brilliance. In this role, you will contribute to the ongoing narrative, collaborating with staff and volunteers from various sectors of the organization to shape the heritage of the future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead initiatives related to acquisitions, including communication with donors (both internal and external), ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed and organized. Provide a high level of user service.
  • Make informed recommendations for disposals in accordance with the Collections Policy, presenting these at Acquisitions and Disposal Meetings. Collaborate with relevant managers for disposal approvals and conduct research with potential recipients, ensuring adherence to proper procedures.
  • Execute acquisitions and disposals in alignment with the Museum Association Code of Ethics.
  • Repack or repack items that are inadequately stored to enhance their long-term preservation and storage.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Ability to deliver work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Experience in adhering to established processes, methods, and standards.
  • Background in roles requiring exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working or volunteering with heritage collections in a museum or similar environment.
  • Formal qualifications or demonstrated training in managing heritage collections.
  • Understanding of the fundamental functions of an organizational heritage service and its significance.
  • A genuine passion for history and the heritage sector.
