We are seeking a highly skilled Theoretical Materials Scientist to join our Department of Materials within the Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College London.

As a world-leading university for science, technology, engineering, medicine and business (STEMB), we are committed to advancing knowledge and improving lives through research, education and innovation.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and lead research activities and programmes of outstanding quality, international repute and innovation in the area of Theory and Simulation of Materials. We welcome applications from experts in different simulation techniques and theoretical frameworks, with no prescription about the specific subfield, thus encompassing the whole spectrum of time- and length-scales relevant to materials, from atomistic to macroscale.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead research activities and programmes in Theory and Simulation of Materials
  • Collaborate with experimental groups and/or industry
  • Generate income from external sources to support research programme
  • Disseminate research through publications and presentations
  • Contribute to teaching and assessment of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
  • Supervise and assess laboratory classes, group exercises and research projects
Person Specifications:
  • PhD in physical sciences, engineering or related field
  • Developing national reputation and expertise in Theory and Simulation of Materials
  • Ability to articulate clear research vision
  • Experience of preparing grant applications
  • Portfolio of high-quality research publications
  • Experience of teaching and training students
  • Experience of supporting and working with PhD students
